"Dental Implants Net" is an information site aimed at providing a better public understanding and popularization of dental implants.
The sinus lift technique is used in cases in which the height of the upper jaw is insufficient.
The maxillary sinus is a hollow portion in the upper jawbone above the molar (back teeth) region.
An implant is commonly placed in the bone between the ridge crest and the maxillary sinus. However, in some cases, the bone height may be deficient.
In such cases, a?small circle is cut into the sidewall of the sinus and the sinus membrane (Schneiderian membrane) is elevated to obtain sufficient bone height for implant placement.
Artificial bone or autogenous bone (i.e., the patient’s own bone) is packed into the elevated region to create new bone.
Once the bone grafts have been integrated with the alveolar bone, the screw is removed.
An implant can be put in place at the same time as the lost bone and tissue are regenerated.
